It may also be helpful for testing system configuration changes before applying them to your production system. Please read all of the steps before starting, since some steps may require advanced preparation. Disclaimer: This document was especially prepared for ITXC during the eHealth 5.6 Beta-2 program. The general procedure of cloning eHealth systems is not something that Concord supplies as a standard product offering. Warnings: It is not possible to use this cloning procedure to accomplish a live upgrade (unless you are willing to have a gap in polling data). That is, you cannot move your production eHealth 5.5 system to a new (cloned) system running eHealth 5.6 without incurring data loss (from pollers). This document does not cover cloning Application Response (AR). If the source system contains AR elements, you must seek additional assistance from Concord. Ignoring this may cause polling problems on the source system. Outline of Steps TOC \o "1-3" \h \z HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389102" 1 Save the eHealth Database of the Source System PAGEREF _Toc32389102 \h 2 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389103" 2 Validate the System-Level Config of the Clone System PAGEREF _Toc32389103 \h 2 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389104" 3 Install Oracle 8i and eHealth 5.5 on the Clone System PAGEREF _Toc32389104 \h 3 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389105" 4 Get Licensing for the Clone System PAGEREF _Toc32389105 \h 3 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389106" 5 Bring Servers Up and Down without Poller Config PAGEREF _Toc32389106 \h 4 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389107" 6 Load the Saved Database onto the Clone System PAGEREF _Toc32389107 \h 4 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389108" 7 Copy Web Config from Source to Clone System PAGEREF _Toc32389108 \h 4 HYPERLINK \l "_Toc32389109" 8 Bring Clone Servers Up PAGEREF _Toc32389109 \h 4 Save the eHealth Database of the Source System On the original eHealth 5.5 system (which should be polling and will not be interrupted by this procedure), perform a full database save using your 5.5 documentation (nhSaveDb). We suggest avoiding ASCII saves (nhSaveDb –ascii) since these take much, much longer than the default/BINARY save. You will need to move the directory produced by nhSaveDb to the clone system. Using NFS can lead to hangs when you run nhLoadDb (Step REF _Ref32212795 \r \h \* MERGEFORMAT 6) because of restrictions in Oracle RMAN. The full pathname of the directory must be identical on both the source system and the clone system (another Oracle RMAN restriction). On UNIX, you may use sym-links to aid this. If you have a lot of data, you may run into problems using conventional commands like: zip tools, tar, ftp, etc. because of files that exceed 2 Gig (and other such boundaries). We have found that UNIX tools rcp, scp, and rsync work well for copying directories with large files from one machine to another. Validate the System-Level Config of the Clone System These steps assume that you are cloning your production system in an effort to test the upgrade procedure. If you are cloning your production system to test the effectiveness and performance of new hardware (or system configuration changes), then you should make appropriate adjustments to these steps. The second system can have: Its own IP address Its own Hostname Its own HOSTID/MAC Address The second system must have: Same operating system Same operating system patches At least as much physical and virtual (SWAP) memory Same network access to the elements being polled Same physical disk layout and at least as much disk space on each partition Same value for $ORACLE_SID Additionally, for UNIX: Same /etc/passwd file for all relevant accounts (UIDs and GIDs must be exact but encrypted passwords can be different) Same /etc/shadow file, if appropriate for your system (UIDs and GIDs must be exact but encrypted passwords can be different) Same /etc/group file for all relevant groups Same /etc/nsswitch.conf entries for “passwd” and “group” Same physical pathnames for $NH_HOME, $ORACLE_HOME and the Oracle DBFs Sym-links are OK Install Oracle 8i and eHealth 5.5 on the Clone System Follow the normal, printed instructions for installing eHealth 5.5, including installation of Oracle 8i. Answer all prompts consistently with how you originally answered them during your original installation of eHealth 5.5, especially with regard to the creation of the database. On UNIX, you may be tempted to use TAR to avoid installing Oracle 8i and/or eHealth 5.5 on the clone system. We strongly recommend against this because of the following: The Oracle installer always relinks its executables when you install it in order to capture system-specific things (that would be lost if you used TAR). eHealth also has system-specific items under NH_HOME that might differ between the two systems. There are sym-links and entries in /etc (or /sbin) that are created by the eHealth installer and need to be 100% consistent with the original system. If you use TAR to copy software to the clone system, you could very easily be debugging some very subtle problems in the product that are only resolvable by reinstalling Oracle 8i or eHealth 5.5. Get Licensing for the Clone System eHealth licenses are not transferable to the clone system. If you wish to do any type of end-to-end testing on the clone system, you will need to negotiate with Concord for licensing the clone system. The machine’s HOSTID/MAC Address and hostname are embedded into our licensing information. Install the new licenses on the clone system using your 5.5 documentation. Bring Servers Up and Down without Poller Config At this point, you should be able to bring the eHealth servers up on the clone system. You will have an empty poller config, but before proceeding you should ensure that you have: No database problems No licensing problems After validating this, you must issue an nhServer stop to shutdown the eHealth servers. Load the Saved Database onto the Clone System Perform a database load on the clone system (nhLoadDb) using the directory produced in Step REF _Ref32210847 \r \h \* MERGEFORMAT 1. The full pathname of the directory must be identical on both the source system and the clone system (another Oracle RMAN restriction). On UNIX, you may use sym-links to aid this. Copy Web Config from Source to Clone System Copy this directory from the Source System to the Clone System: $NH_HOME/web Then on the clone system run this command to adjust the web server configuration for the clone system: $NH_HOME/web/webCfg/nhiHttpConfig[.exe] Start eHealth on Clone System When you bring the eHealth up on the clone system, you will double- poll all of your elements (once from your clone system and once from your source system): Become $NH_USER Run: nhServer start Warning: double polling increases SNMP traffic on your network by 100%. Use caution with devices that cannot respond adequately to two polls per polling interval. Ignoring this may cause missed polls on your eHealth systems and may possibly cause problems to devices/agents being polled. Legal Copyright 2003 Concord Communications, Inc. All rights reserved.
